These are the greatest hiking boots ever! I am an avid mountain hiker in a desert climate. Summers here are 115 degrees and the ventilation properties of these boots is a lifesaver! The vibram soles with the deep lugs have the sticking power of Spiderman for climbing boulders and slick rock. This is my second pair. After putting hundreds of tough miles on my first pair, I designated them as 'water hiking boots'. I wore them on a 3 day 30 mile backpack where they were immersed in water or just soaking wet the entire trip and they are still going strong. My son and my boyfriend wear these, too, and love them! I work for the Forest Service at the public hiking trailheads and I can tell you that more hikers here wear this particular shoe than any other by far. That says it all. These rock!
Shoes that fit and stay comfortable all day are a rare find for me. I seem to have the kind of feet that are just not happy in shoes, and I wish I could wear flip flops every day, but you know how that goes. Anyway, I am a walker. I walk my three dogs 4 to 6 miles a day nearly every day. We walk on a levee, so much of the walk is on large gravel. These Merrell boots are truly wonderful for that, and other tasks as well. They work great for me. Maybe for you too. In my case, I never know until I try, and with thirty-five years of dog walks behind me, I've tried lots of hiking boots. Oh, and I did get the boots a size larger than normal, as some suggested in the other reviews, which, surprisingly for me, worked out just fine. And finally, I rarely write reviews, but when Zappos sent me a notice asking me to, I took the time to write this. I did that because Zappos is the best online store (or any store, for that matter) that I have ever done business with. The least I can do is take a few minutes to write this review for them.
